The role of a timer is to have knowledge of how to use a stop watch (we can show you how), be able to stand on your feet for three hours and assist in getting times on each swimmer that swims in your assigned lane. The timers then report their time to the scribe who records it and turns it in to be recorded for ribbons.
Runners
The job of a runner is to distribute sheets containing heat and swimmer info to scribes. Then collect all sheets that have been completed by the scribes, and turn them into the computer people so that the times may be entered into the computer. This job requires being on your feet for three hours going from lane to lane collecting info and turning it in to the clubroom. It is a fast paced job, lots of energy and patience as well as lots of ORGANIZATION is required.
Set Up and Take Down
This job requires strong muscles and open Friday nights, as well as time to kill after the meets. Friday nights consist of setting up the tents, ready benches, lane ropes, chairs, etc., ... needed for each meet. Take down simply means to take it all back down and store it in the shed. We also will need help with both of these jobs for away meets, however it will only require Saturday morning help of setting up tents and take down afterwards.
Concessions
This job requires wanting to be COOL! (In the AC that is.) You would need to
be able to use a calculator, count money, serve hot dogs, etc… sometimes even
all simultaneously. This job needs patience with kids. Some cleaning is also expected at the end of the third shift.
Ready Bench
This job requires being on your feet for three hours for some fast paced
well-organized fun. The job consists of getting the kids in each age group
organized for each heat in order and lined up ready to swim. This is a very
important job! It determines how fast paced the meet will run. A loud voice
(the kind that will pump the kids up) and patience are a must. Good
organizational skills needed.
Sign-in Board
This job requires being on the move for the full three hours. You will be in
charge of calling each event to get the kids lined up to head to the ready
benches. You will have a mega-phone to make sure you are heard. If you are
missing a swimmer it is your responsibility to try and locate them through
multiple calls. (Sometimes a little frustrating, again patience needed) A loud
voice need to be heard as well as good organizational skills needed.
Announcer
This job requires an entertaining personality, also someone who is willing to
work most all of the meet. You will need to assist in letting families know
which events are coming up so that they can prepare their kids to swim, as well
as make any needed announcements throughout the meet. Calling all comedians; it
can be a long day.
Ribbons
This job requires someone who can be in the clubroom for your entire shift. You
would be putting the info (a sticker) on the backs of all heat ribbons to give
to the opposing team as well as ours.
Computers
This job requires some computer experience (we can show you the ropes though).
You will be required to input swimmers info to be used for the ribbons.
